Summer Sketches

Hi everyone!
I spent a little time sketching this summer.
I was bound and determined to overcome
my fear of drawing.
I tried to pick up my sketch book everyday
and sketch something.

Little by little I am becoming more comfortable
with pen and pencil.
My 6 year old granddaughter Avery and I
are now sketching together when we can.
We take turns drawing in a sketch book
that prompts us to draw certain things,
like a marching band.
I know, I only got as far as the Drum Major.
What can I say, I chickened out.
to see more "Sketching with Avery".
So my summer quest, to overcome the fear of
drawing has been a success.
I now have the desire to sketch
and I am enjoying the process.

My first attempt at painting!

A neighbor invited me to join her "painting retreat"
at her home in September....the problem was
I have never painted in my life!
Always had an interest but never got around to it!?
So I signed up for the retreat and my neighbor
was kind enough to invite me to her house
to learn the basis so I would feel
more comfortable at the retreat.
So here is my first attempt with
a paint brush in my hand!

I would change a few things but
we were limited on time so I am excited
about how they turned out but more excited
because I LOVE TO PAINT!
Enjoy!

PS Would love to see what other "Useppa Artists" are up to this summer :)

Needlepoint belt finished!!!!

Many of you have watched the slow progress
of Kim's needlepoint belt.
Now that we are in Montana and have
some down time.....
it is finished ;)
Thought you might also enjoy some
pictures of the wildflowers in
our backyard.
Hope everyone is having a
great Summer!
We miss you all.
Until we meet again......

Art Birds

Hello everyone!
Last time we were together I was
making beaks out of sculpty.
Those beaks have now become
art birds.
As with most everything I make these birds
are one of a kind and all original.
For Mother's Day I made this aviary for my
Mom.
I have also opened an Etsy shop.
http://www.etsy.com/shop/connectingpieces?ref=si_shop
It is called connectingpieces.
These are just a few of the things that are keeping me
busy this spring.
Missing you all and thinking of you often.

Drawing - Zentangle, my first attempt

Winky came to class with her new books about Zentangle art.
I had never heard of it but was attracted
to the idea of meditative drawing.
I don't feel that I am an artist but after sketching this owl,
 the fun began.
I created each section and then chose the
different zentangle patterns as I went along.

Crafts - Sculpted Puppet

I have begun my first attempt at making a puppet.
It's a challenge but I have help and determination also.

Fibers-Knitted Scarf

I am working on a Ruffle Scarf!!
Or as Ginny Taylor says a potato chip scarf :)
As I began I was not sure it was "ruffling"
then all of a sudden after knitting
 a few rows....a ruffle!
Such fun!
It is camel colored with tiny sequins.
I will keep you posted
on my progress
throughout this Summer!

This is my first attempt to post on our blog.

The image I put on the blog is a painting that will be in the Lightcatcher Museum, Whatcom Museum
Bellingham, WA. The exhibit is Earth In Balance and precedes a fall exhibit Vanishing Ice that will show paintings from 1775 to 2012 regarding  the Earth.

When my painting is hung I will send a picture.

ICE FIRE

ICE FIRE

ICE IS MELTING

I have seen the majestic blue sparkling glaciers.

Will I only be able to hold then in my memory?

FIRE IS RAGING

Wildfires move swiftly across our land and through our pristine forest.

Will our children ever know their beauty?

ICE IS MELTING

The oceans are rising to cover our edges.

How swiftly will we disappear parts of our lives?

ICE FIRE

Mother Earth is crying out to us.

Will we listen?
